JANUARY EARWORMS

And now for something completely different…

I thought I’d mix it up a bit as I don’t want this blog to be all books, so I’m here to share my top ten tracks from January according to my Spotify plays. My music taste is somewhat eclectic so I’m starting this post with no idea what will actually come up in this list! I mostly play my liked songs on shuffle and listen to whatever is thrown my way from that.

There's the idea of 'guilty pleasures' that a lot of people allude to, particularly when it comes to music. But I am a firm believer in the idea of if you like it then that's what matters! Sure there'll be some stuff that's not 'cool', genres or artists that you simply cannot stand, and bands you adore that'll make other people question your entire existence...but that's what's beautiful about music, right?

My January top ten looks like this:

  • Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten
  • Brand New - Seventy Times Seven
  • Neck Deep - December
  • Architects - Seeing Red
  • blink-182 - Adam's Song
  • Allister - Somewhere On Fullerton
  • +44 - No, It Isn't
  • Hollywood Undead - Everywhere I Go
  • Fenix TX - All My Fault
  • Lorna Shore - Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames

I'm unsure if it's a good or bad thing that there's barely any new music on there, and I am wondering how much of a true reflection this list is. I know there are other songs I've definitely listened to more than ones that have appeared on this list, and ones that are on there have maybe started then been skipped…but let’s not split hairs.

In terms of full albums I've had Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs on almost daily since release, fuelled by the sheer excitement of getting to see Alkaline Trio again in July! I've also really been enjoying Saviours, and am still caught in the One More Time loop very regularly as well (because of course I am). Most of my music listening is done in the car, so I tend to prefer songs I already know; when it comes to new albums I like to dedicate the time to listen through properly and really get a feel for the tracks which is concentration I cannot spare behind the wheel!

I really don't know what to expect next, and I don't know if this is something I'll post every single month, but it has been fun to see my aural fixations (can we all appreciate that Everywhere I Go is the most feral track?!) in just ten songs.

If you'd like to peep what else has been in my ears - for better or for worse - the top listened to tracks is actually a 50-strong playlist. Have a lil preview below, and if you want to listen to the whole thing it's IN MY SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS.
